Exploding Penguin

Not to be confused with the similarly named card game, this was my submission to the 2026 GMTK Game Jam. With the theme being "Count Down", I couldn't resist making another bomberman clone, as is tradition, with the twist being that the bomb timer starts before you place the bombs.
Did decently well in the ratings, with the best ranking being #1180 in enjoyment (out of 10.5k entries) and worst being #4040 in narrative. Think my biggest issue was that I made the game pretty difficult, with the idea being that players would do multiple runs and discover all the different bomb options available. After rating a lot of games myself, I realised that being able to finish a game in a short amount of time is very valuable in game jams, and decreasing the difficulty while adding optional "challenge runs" might have been better.
